Independent electronic invoicing guide

Understand the route, then invoice only on official KRA systems

AfroTools does not register you, receive your KRA PIN, collect an OTP or identity document, create an invoice, or transmit sales to KRA. Use this page to orient yourself before opening the live service.

Start with KRA's current guidance because solution names and screens can change.

A safer eTIMS workflow

Do not treat this independent guide as a determination of your tax obligations.

1

Confirm the current scope

KRA's current overview says persons engaged in business are generally required to onboard and issue electronic tax invoices, including many non-VAT businesses. It also describes exceptions and buyer-initiated invoicing for some purchases.

2

Choose from the solutions KRA currently offers

KRA lists online, client, eCitizen and system-to-system options. eTIMS Lite is described for small and micro non-VAT taxpayers; more complex businesses may need a client or integration route.

  • Use the official eTIMS service hub to open the latest solution pages.
  • Do not assume a device, app or integration is suitable without checking KRA's current instructions.
3

Register on the official service

KRA says taxpayers can self-onboard and should register before installing a solution. Follow the live steps; do not copy a PIN, password, OTP, ID image or registration record into AfroTools.

4

Create, transmit and review invoices inside KRA's workflow

This page cannot validate an invoice or prove transmission. Use the official solution and taxpayer portal to issue and inspect records, and reconcile them with your books before returns.

5

Treat buyer-initiated invoicing as a special workflow

KRA describes a buyer-initiated route for qualifying small sellers and other targeted cases. Eligibility, consent, data fields and approval belong to the official workflow, not this guide.

6

Resolve uncertainty with KRA

Use the support links and contact details on KRA's live eTIMS hub. Avoid third parties requesting credentials, remote access or unofficial payments.

Expense and return checks

KRA says business expenses generally need appropriate electronic-invoice support, subject to statutory exceptions. KRA also announced validation of declared income and expenses against eTIMS/TIMS and other records for returns submitted from 2026. Reconcile records, use the buyer PIN where applicable, and obtain professional advice for disputed or exceptional items.

Do not infer deductibility from an invoice alone. An eTIMS record does not by itself prove that an expense is allowable, correctly classified or supported by every document the law may require.

Common questions

Is AfroTools affiliated with KRA?

No. This is an independent orientation guide. Registration, invoicing, transmission and account support happen on KRA systems.

Does this page create or verify an eTIMS invoice?

No. It collects no invoice data and cannot validate a control-unit signature, QR code, buyer PIN, transmission or tax treatment.

Is eTIMS only for VAT-registered businesses?

KRA's current guidance says the scope extends to persons in business who are not VAT-registered, while also describing exceptions and special buyer-invoicing cases. Confirm your position with KRA.
