Why repetition cannot become an originality score
Plagiarism is about attribution and source use, not simply repeated wording. A draft may repeat technical terms and still be properly cited; another may paraphrase a source closely without repeating an exact phrase. Without a relevant corpus and academic context, a percentage would create false certainty.
Use these counts as editing prompts. Review whether repeated phrases are necessary, whether a long sentence should be split, and whether borrowed ideas are quoted or cited according to your institution’s rules. A clean local repetition report is not proof that a draft is original.

Does a repeated phrase mean plagiarism?
No. It means the same normalized word sequence occurs more than once inside this draft. It may be intentional, unavoidable or worth revising; the tool cannot decide which.
Does lexical variety measure originality?
No. It is the share of distinct normalized words in the draft. Length, topic and terminology affect it, so it is presented only as a descriptive writing statistic.
Can this compare my essay with the internet or Turnitin?
