Cent-accurate allocation

How the split handles rounding

The bill and added percentage are converted to the smallest currency unit before allocation. Any rounding remainder is distributed so the displayed shares add back to the displayed grand total.

  • Equal: divides cents evenly, assigning one extra cent to early rows when needed.
  • Custom: requires entered shares to total exactly 100%.
  • Added charge: use zero if service is already included in the bill.
Should service charge be entered again?
No. If the total bill already includes it, leave the added percentage at zero. Only enter an extra percentage that is not already part of the total.
Why must custom percentages total 100%?
It prevents the calculator from silently changing the agreement. Adjust the entered shares until they total 100%, then calculate again.
How are fractions of a cent handled?
The calculator allocates whole smallest units and distributes the remainder deterministically. This keeps the individual displayed amounts equal to the displayed grand total.
