UNDP opens timbuktoo CreativeTech Launchpad to African creator-economy startups

UNDP is accepting African CreativeTech startups into a rolling incubation programme covering creator platforms, digital media, animation, gaming, music, film, design and immersive technology.

The United Nations Development Programme opened applications on June 30, 2026 for the first cohort of African CreativeTech startups joining its timbuktoo Launchpad. The first cohort is scheduled to begin incubation in September 2026 through the timbuktoo Creatives Hub hosted in South Africa.

Who the programme is for
UNDP says eligible companies must be based in Africa or build for African markets, have a prototype or minimum viable product, have a committed founding team, and offer a technology-enabled solution for the creative economy. The call includes digital content creation, animation, gaming, music, film, design, creator-economy platforms, immersive technologies and AI-enabled creative products.

Women-led startups, youth entrepreneurs and founders from underserved communities are particularly encouraged to apply. Applications are rolling, with new cohorts planned every three months after the September intake.

What selected founders receive
Selected startups are expected to receive structured incubation, mentor and industry access, a pan-African founder network, investment-readiness support, pitch development and access to demo days. Participants will also use the Seedstars SIGMA platform for learning resources, mentor matching, progress tracking and startup guidance.

The practical point for African creator founders is that this is not a general creator award or content competition. It is an incubation route for teams already building a working CreativeTech product with evidence of growth potential.

How to check the opportunity
Founders should read the eligibility details and use the application link on the official UNDP South Africa announcement. UNDP describes timbuktoo as a pan-African innovation initiative and says the Creatives Hub connects entrepreneurs with knowledge, networks, markets and investment opportunities.
