A planned creator platform based in Kenya
Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, William Kabogo, announced on July 16, 2026 that Wapi Pay and Volcano Engine signed a partnership to base the Tazama creator platform in Kenya. The announcement followed a signing in Beijing and described Tazama as a planned platform for creators in Kenya and elsewhere in Africa.
What the partners say Tazama will provide
Kabogo's official announcement says the platform is intended to combine AI tools, localisation support and payment systems. It also says support for African-language content will begin with Kiswahili. Wapi Pay's role connects the project to cross-border payments, while Volcano Engine provides cloud and AI technology.
