MTN One TV opens a new pan-African streaming lane for creators and broadcasters

MTN Group's June 8, 2026 launch of MTN One TV gives African creators, broadcasters and content partners another distribution path tied to local payments and phased market rollout.

MTN Group has begun rolling out MTN One TV, a new digital entertainment proposition for African markets, and the creator angle is bigger than another streaming app entering the catalogue.

In its official June 8, 2026 announcement, MTN said One TV is designed to bring together local storytelling, live channels, international programming and market-specific viewing options. The group also said viewing models may vary by market and can include free-to-view content, advertising-funded experiences, pay-as-you-watch access and subscription offers.

That flexibility matters for African creators and broadcasters because access and payment friction still shape video monetisation across the continent. MTN said customers may be able to pay through airtime, Mobile Money and other locally supported payment methods depending on market availability. For creators, that points to a distribution lane where telecom billing and local payment rails can reduce some of the barriers that keep audiences outside subscription-only platforms.

MTN framed One TV as part of its Ambition 2030 strategy and said the rollout will be phased across MTN markets, reflecting local needs, existing services and partnership opportunities. The company specifically linked the proposition to opportunities for African creators, broadcasters, advertisers and ecosystem partners by connecting content to wider audiences through MTN's connectivity, payments and digital-services scale.

Techpoint Africa also reported the launch in June 2026, highlighting live TV, local content, international entertainment, free ad-supported viewing, subscriptions and pay-per-view options. AfroStream is treating this as a platform story rather than a creator ranking item: the important signal is not a single creator milestone, but another large African telecom operator packaging video, payments and audience reach into one entertainment product.
