MTN Ghana digital music forum pushes creator income beyond streams

MTN Ghana convened more than 100 music and digital-platform stakeholders in Accra to focus on creator monetisation, rights management, CRBT revenue and sustainable digital music income.

MTN Ghana digital music forum pushes creator income beyond streams

MTN Ghana has turned its Digital Music Conference into a platform story for Ghanaian creators, artists and rights holders trying to convert digital reach into reliable income.

Ghana News Agency reported on May 13, 2026 that MTN Ghana convened a refreshed edition of the forum in Accra with more than 100 stakeholders from the music and creative ecosystem. The attendee mix included artists, music executives, publishers, rights administrators and digital platform managers.

The core issue was not visibility. It was monetisation. Bless Sefenu Agordjo, Senior Manager for Digital Services and Verticals at MTN Ghana, said the company sees artists as partners, not merely as content suppliers. He pointed to caller ring-back tones, MTN Radio, PlayUP and Boomplay as part of the wider digital music ecosystem that can support recurring income.

MyJoyOnline's April 30, 2026 report from the conference added more operating detail. It said the event was held at MTN House on April 29 and included D-Black, Bessa Simons, Baba Sadiq, Camidoh, Episode and Kwaw Kese among the industry participants. The report also quoted MTN's acting chief digital officer saying the focus was opportunity, ownership and sustainability in the creative economy.

The practical creator angle is clear. Streaming has expanded reach for Ghanaian artists, but reach does not automatically become income. MyJoyOnline reported conference comments that earning about $1,000 through major streaming platforms can require very high stream counts, while CRBT can offer a different recurring revenue path when fans keep subscriptions active.

Rights administration was another theme. Diana Hopeson of GH Music Publishing stressed music registration and stronger royalty structures. MUSIGA president Bessa Simons called for organised representation. Baba Sadiq, founder of 3Music Network and Ghana's High Commissioner to Nigeria, linked modern music growth to data, audience behaviour and platform insight.

For AfroStream, this is a platform infrastructure story rather than a single-creator milestone. It shows how Ghana's creator economy is moving from audience growth toward revenue design, rights records, platform partnerships and fan data. The next test is whether the conference output becomes easier onboarding, clearer royalty accounting and more transparent income pathways for artists using MTN-linked digital channels.
