The City of Cape Town has opened an additional Film Fund application round for projects that can be completed during the City 2026/27 financial year, which runs from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027. The official call was published on September 5 and applications are open from September 7 to October 7, 2026.
The programme can provide financial support or municipal services for eligible film and media projects produced in Cape Town. The City says the fund is intended to strengthen the local economy, support jobs and help emerging talent participate in the film industry.
The call covers production and post-production projects including short films, feature films, animation, interactive gaming and reality television series. It excludes adult content, training and corporate videos, current affairs and news programming, and applications to buy equipment or other assets. Applicants should assess their project against the complete current criteria rather than treating these examples as a guarantee of eligibility.
Application forms, the project-plan template and the supporting-document checklist are linked from the City release and Film Cape Town. A completed application with the required documents must be submitted through the official channel named in the current call. Applicants should rely on the September 5 City release for this round because older Film Cape Town pages can display earlier deadlines.
