Feddan to acre conversion table
This table uses 4,200 m² per feddan and the international acre. Acre results are rounded to six decimal places.
| Feddans | Acres | Hectares |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1.037843 | 0.42 |
| 2 | 2.075685 | 0.84 |
| 5 | 5.189213 | 2.1 |
| 10 | 10.378426 | 4.2 |
| 100 | 103.784260 | 42 |
How to convert feddans into acres
Multiply the number of feddans by the square metres in one feddan, then divide by 4,046.8564224, the square metres in one international acre.
Acres = feddans × square metres per feddan ÷ 4,046.8564224.
For example, 10 feddans on the 4,200 m² basis cover 42,000 m²: 42,000 ÷ 4,046.8564224 ≈ 10.378426 acres. To convert back, multiply acres by 4,046.8564224 and divide by your feddan basis.
Which feddan definition should I use?
The default here follows the 4,200 m² reference in FAO’s published Egypt national report. It is a stated calculation assumption, not a determination of the area or legal boundaries of a particular property. Use the measurement stated in your survey or land document when it differs.
The full unit converter also includes a 4,200.83 m² Egyptian preset. Enter 4200.83 above if that is the basis specified in your document; do not mix results calculated on different bases.
Is a feddan the same as an acre?
No. On the default basis, one feddan is about 3.78% larger than one international acre. Neither unit describes the shape of a plot: the same area can have many different lengths and widths.
Sources and calculation notes
- FAO: Egypt national report, December 1991 — defines the reference feddan as 4,200 m².
- NIST: revised unit conversion factors — gives the international acre as exactly 4,046.8564224 m². This page does not use the legacy U.S. survey acre.
