Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to drive Lagos to Ibadan?
The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has multiple toll plazas. For a private car paying cash, expect to pay approximately ₦3,000 one-way. Using an e-tag through Remitta or the LASG system may give a 10-15% discount. For daily commuters making this trip, monthly toll costs alone can reach ₦66,000 (₦3,000 × 22 working days × 2 trips). Factor in fuel costs separately.
Does South Africa's e-toll system still operate?
South Africa's Gauteng e-toll system was officially scrapped in 2022 and all e-toll debt was written off. However, SANRAL still operates conventional toll gates on national roads including the N1 (Johannesburg-Pretoria), N3 (Johannesburg-Durban), N4, and others. These are traditional cash or card payment toll plazas, not the controversial urban e-tolling system.
Are there tolls on Kenyan roads?
Kenya currently has no operational national toll system on most major roads. The Nairobi Expressway (launched 2022) is the main tolled road, charging KSh 100-800 depending on vehicle class and distance. The Nairobi-Mombasa road has no tolls but uses SGR (Standard Gauge Railway) for passenger transport. KENHA and KeNHA are considering expanding toll roads.
