TIN Registration in Uganda — Complete Guide
The TIN (Tax Identification Number) is issued by the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) in Uganda. Registration is free and typically takes Instant (online). Uganda offers online TIN registration through the URA portal, making the process accessible from anywhere. The TIN is governed by the Tax Procedures Code Act 2014; Income Tax Act (Cap 340); URA Act (Cap 196) and administered by the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.
All businesses operating in Uganda and individuals in formal employment are required to register for a TIN. The TIN is a 10-digit numeric identifier needed for tax filing, business bank accounts, government contracts, and customs clearance. Failure to register carries penalties: uGX 200,000 per year of non-compliance.
