TIN Registration in Rwanda — Complete Guide

The TIN (Tax Identification Number) is issued by the Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) in Rwanda. Registration is free and typically takes Instant (online via Irembo). Rwanda offers online TIN registration through the RRA portal, making the process accessible from anywhere. The TIN is governed by the Law No. 027/2019 on Tax Procedures; Law No. 016/2018 on Income Tax and administered by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning.

All businesses operating in Rwanda and individuals in formal employment are required to register for a TIN. The TIN is a 9-digit numeric (starts with 1 for individuals, 2 for businesses) identifier needed for tax filing, business bank accounts, government contracts, and customs clearance. Failure to register carries penalties: rWF 300,000 fine.
