TIN Registration in Burundi — Complete Guide

The NIF (Numéro d'Identification Fiscale) is issued by the Office Burundais des Recettes (OBR) in Burundi. Registration is free and typically takes 3-7 business days. Burundi offers online TIN registration through the OBR portal, making the process accessible from anywhere. The TIN is governed by the Loi N°1/02 du 24 janvier 2013 portant création de l'OBR and administered by the Ministère des Finances, du Budget et de la Planification.

All businesses operating in Burundi and individuals in formal employment are required to register for a NIF. The NIF is a Variable (up to 10 digits) identifier needed for tax filing, business bank accounts, government contracts, and customs clearance. Failure to register carries penalties: fine per tax code provisions.
