Frequently Asked Questions

No. Your PDF is processed entirely in your browser. The text is extracted locally using JavaScript, and the audio is generated by your browser's built-in text-to-speech engine. No data is sent anywhere.
Voice availability depends on your browser and operating system. Chrome typically offers the most voices. Try reloading the page if voices haven't loaded yet. On some systems, voices are loaded asynchronously and may take a moment to appear.
This tool extracts text from PDF text layers. Scanned PDFs that contain only images won't have extractable text. For scanned documents, use our PDF OCR tool first to add a text layer, then use this tool to listen.
You can adjust playback speed from 0.5x (half speed) to 2x (double speed) in 0.25x increments. The default is 1x (normal speed). Slower speeds are helpful for complex or technical content.
