Planning boundary
The four percentages are editable planning allocations, not industry standards. A production-ready budget needs detailed line items, quotes, contracts, tax, insurance, rights, access, safety, delivery and finance terms.
Method and source

A first allocation, not the final production budget

This tool divides only the total you enter. It does not invent country prices, exchange rates, gross revenue, commissions, grants or acquisition offers. The funding gap adds your chosen contingency and subtracts only cash or committed finance you enter.

Screen Australia publishes current A–Z production-budget and finance-plan templates, illustrating the detailed evidence a serious film budget needs. Review the official budget templates. Source reviewed 18 July 2026.

Privacy: budget and funding figures stay in this browser. Copy, TXT download, and Print / save PDF happen only when selected. No network function or account is used.

Film budget allocation questions

Must the allocations total 100%?

Yes. The calculator blocks the result until above-the-line, physical production, post-production, and marketing or delivery sum to exactly 100%.

What counts as committed finance?

Use only cash or finance supported by an executed agreement or other evidence you trust. Do not count hoped-for grants, sales, sponsorships or platform deals as secured.

Does this calculate return on investment?

No. Revenue, distribution deductions, recoupment waterfalls, tax and investor terms are not known, so the tool does not manufacture an ROI target.
