FAQ

Common questions

Are these documents legally binding?
The documents are templates based on statutory minimum requirements and current employment law for each country. When properly completed, signed by both parties, and compliant with local law, they are legally valid. However, complex situations — senior executive contracts, disputes, or cross-border employment — may require a qualified labour attorney to review. Always ensure the employee signs a copy.
How current is the legal information?
Our country data is regularly updated. Key legislation covered: Nigeria Labour Act (Cap L1 LFN 2004, with 2024 NMW Act amendments), Kenya Employment Act 2007 (updated for NSSF 2013 and SHIF 2024), South Africa BCEA 75/1997 and LRA 66/1995 (updated for 2025 NMW rates), Ghana Labour Act 2003 (Act 651), and others. For recent regulatory changes, check our Regulatory Change Alerts.
Can I customise the documents beyond the defaults?
Yes — you can increase leave days, notice periods, or pension contributions above the statutory minimum. You can also add optional clauses like confidentiality (NDA), restraint of trade, or remote work provisions. You cannot set values below statutory minimums — the tool won't allow this as it would make the document non-compliant.
Does the PDF need to be witnessed or notarised?
For standard employment contracts and most HR documents across Africa, two signatures (employer and employee) are sufficient. Witnesses are recommended but not legally required in most jurisdictions. Notarisation is generally only required for specific legal documents like property deeds. Check your country's requirements for executive or foreign-national contracts.
Is this really free? What's the catch?
Basic document generation and PDF download are completely free — no email address, no account, no hidden charge. AfroTools earns revenue through premium features (company logo, bulk generation, saved vault), our B2B API, and advertising. The free tier is genuinely free and covers 95% of what SMEs need.
What if I need a document type not listed here?
We cover the 10 most common employment documents across Africa. For less common documents (share option schemes, co-founder agreements, executive service agreements), use our AI Labour Law Advisor for guidance, then consult a labour attorney for a bespoke draft.
