Frequently asked questions
How does the Diamond Valuation Estimator work?

You enter the carat weight and a base price per carat for a top-grade stone of that size, then choose the cut, colour and clarity. The tool multiplies carat × base price × quality factors for cut, colour and clarity to estimate the retail value, and derives wholesale, insurance and resale figures from percentages you can adjust. Because you supply the base price, the estimate reflects a current market reference rather than a stale built-in price.

Why do I have to enter the base price per carat?

Diamond prices come from proprietary trade price lists that change constantly and cannot be redistributed. Rather than hardcode a price that would go stale, the tool asks you for a base price per carat — from a dealer quote, a price-list reference or a recent comparable sale — and applies the 4C quality factors to it. A missing base price is never treated as zero; the tool blocks the estimate until you enter one.

Are the retail, wholesale, insurance and resale figures accurate?

They are illustrative. Retail is the 4C-adjusted value; wholesale, insurance replacement and private resale are derived from typical percentage relationships you can change. Real prices depend on certification, fluorescence, shape, make and the market, and large stones do not scale linearly. Use this as a first estimate and get a certified appraisal before buying, selling or insuring.

Is it free?

Yes, it is completely free with no signup and works on any phone or computer. It suits diamond buyers, sellers and small dealers across African markets and works in any currency you choose.
