Cabo Verde court admits sixth presidential bid

CNE says a 24 September court appeal ruling admitted Loisito Tavares de Sousa, bringing the 15 November presidential field to six.

Cabo Verde's National Electoral Commission reported on 27 September 2026 that the Constitutional Court, in ruling 80/2026 dated 24 September, upheld an appeal by Loisito Tavares de Sousa and ordered his presidential candidacy admitted.

The CNE says this brings the number of admitted candidacies for the 15 November presidential election to six. Its notice names Gilson João dos Santos Alves, Joana Gomes Rosa Amado, José Maria Pereira Neves, Antero Lúcio Lopes Francês Tavares, Casimiro Jesus Lopes de Pina, and Loisito Tavares de Sousa. These are admitted candidacies reported by the CNE, not a final ballot order.

The commission's earlier 22 September notice described five admitted candidacies and an appeal window. The 27 September notice updates that count after one appeal ruling. Readers should check the CNE for any later court or ballot notices. An admissibility ruling is not an election result.
