Section 01

Introduction

AfroTools ("we", "us", "our") operates the website afrotools.com. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you visit our website and use our tools. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data transparently.

By accessing or using AfroTools, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this policy, please discontinue use of the platform immediately.

This policy applies to all visitors, users, and subscribers of AfroTools, regardless of location. We have designed our data practices to comply with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) of South Africa, the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR), and other applicable African data protection frameworks.

📋
Section 02

Data We Collect

AfroTools follows a strict minimal data policy. We only collect what is necessary to operate and improve the platform. Here is a comprehensive list of the personal and non-personal data we may process:

  • Email address — collected only when you voluntarily subscribe to updates, create an AfroTools Pro account, or request a PDF report via email. We never require an account to use any free tool.
  • Account information — if you create an AfroTools Pro account, we store your email, hashed password (via Supabase authentication), subscription status, and account preferences.
  • Usage analytics — anonymised page views, device type, country, and session duration collected via Google Analytics 4 (GA4). No personal identifiers are linked to browsing behaviour. IP anonymisation is enabled.
  • Calculator inputs — salary, tax, and financial inputs are processed entirely in your browser using JavaScript. We do not store, transmit, or have access to your calculation data unless you explicitly choose to save results to your account.
  • Payment information — if you subscribe to AfroTools Pro, payment details are processed directly by our payment processors (Paystack and/or Stripe). We never see, store, or have access to your full card number, CVV, or banking details.
  • Contact form submissions — when you use our contact form, your name, email, and message are stored securely for the purpose of responding to your enquiry.
📩
Section 03

How We Use Your Email

If you submit your email address, we use it only for the specific purpose you agreed to:

  • Sending notifications when new tools launch for your country
  • Alerting you when tax law changes affect a calculator you have used
  • Delivering PDF reports you have requested via email
  • Account-related communications (password resets, subscription confirmations) for Pro users

We do not sell, rent, or share your email with any third parties. Ever. We do not send unsolicited marketing emails. We do not share subscriber lists with advertisers or partners.

ℹ️

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send. Unsubscribes are processed immediately — no 30-day delays, no confirmation steps.

🍪
Section 04

Cookies & Local Storage

AfroTools uses no advertising cookies and no third-party tracking cookies that identify individual users. We use only the following:

  • Google Analytics 4 cookies_ga and _ga_* cookies collect anonymous page view data (country, device type, page visited). No personal identifiers are linked. These cookies expire after 14 months. You can opt out via our cookie consent banner.
  • Supabase authentication cookies — if you sign in to an AfroTools Pro account, Supabase stores a session token to keep you logged in. These are strictly functional and are cleared when you log out.
  • localStorage preferences — we use browser localStorage to remember your settings such as preferred country, dark/light mode, cookie consent choice, and recently used tools. This data never leaves your browser and is not transmitted to any server.

You can clear all AfroTools data at any time by clearing your browser's cookies and site data for afrotools.com.

🔒
Section 05

Calculator & PDF Data

This is our strongest privacy commitment: all calculations happen locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your salary figures, tax inputs, health data, and results are never sent to our servers.

When you download a PDF report, it is generated entirely in your browser and saved directly to your device. No data passes through our servers during this process.

PDF tools (merge, split, compress, convert): Files you upload to our PDF Workspace are processed entirely within your browser using client-side JavaScript. Your files are never uploaded to our servers, never transmitted over the internet, and never stored anywhere outside your device. Closing the browser tab permanently removes all file data from memory.

🛡️

Your files never leave your browser. We have zero access to the documents you process with our PDF tools. This is by design, not by policy.

Section 06

Third-Party Services

We use a limited number of third-party services to operate AfroTools. Each service only receives the minimum data necessary for its function:

  • Supabase — provides authentication and database services for AfroTools Pro accounts. Supabase processes your email and hashed password. Data is stored in compliance with SOC 2 Type II standards. Supabase Privacy Policy
  • Google Analytics 4 — anonymised usage statistics with IP anonymisation enabled. No cross-site tracking. We do not enable Google Signals or advertising features. Google Privacy Policy
  • Paystack — processes payments for AfroTools Pro subscriptions in African currencies. Paystack is PCI DSS Level 1 compliant. We never receive or store your card details. Paystack Privacy Policy
  • Stripe — processes international payments for AfroTools Pro. Stripe is PCI DSS Level 1 certified. We never receive or store your card details. Stripe Privacy Policy
  • Netlify — hosts AfroTools and processes form submissions. May log basic request metadata. Netlify Privacy Policy
  • Anthropic Claude API — the AI Advisor features send anonymised calculation summaries (not your name, email, or personal identifiers) to generate advice. Anthropic Privacy Policy
  • Google Fonts — typography loaded from Google's CDN. Google may log the request IP address. Google Privacy Policy

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information to any parties other than those listed above, and only to the extent necessary for the stated purposes.

  • Pro accounts — account data is retained while your subscription is active and for 30 days after cancellation to allow reactivation
  • Contact form submissions — retained for 90 days, then automatically deleted
  • Analytics data — Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months per our GA4 configuration
  • Calculator inputs — never stored on our servers; exist only in your browser session

You may request deletion of your data at any time by emailing privacy@afrotools.com. We will confirm deletion within 7 business days.

Section 09

POPIA & NDPR Compliance

South Africa — Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA): AfroTools processes personal information in accordance with POPIA. We process personal information only with your consent or where necessary to provide our services. We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, or destruction. South African users may lodge complaints with the Information Regulator if they believe their rights under POPIA have been infringed.

Nigeria — Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR): AfroTools complies with the NDPR and the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. For users in other African jurisdictions, we apply the highest applicable data protection standard across all territories we serve. We are committed to respecting the privacy laws of every country from which our users access AfroTools.

🔐
Section 10

Data Security

We implement a range of security measures to maintain the safety of your personal information:

  • All data transmitted between your browser and our servers is encrypted using TLS/SSL (HTTPS)
  • Passwords are hashed using industry-standard bcrypt algorithms via Supabase; we never store plaintext passwords
  • Payment information is handled exclusively by PCI DSS Level 1 compliant processors (Paystack and Stripe)
  • Access to user data is restricted to authorised personnel only
  • Client-side processing ensures that sensitive calculator and PDF data never reaches our infrastructure

While we take every reasonable precaution to protect your data, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security but are committed to protecting your information to the highest practical standard.

👤
Section 11

Children's Privacy

AfroTools is a general-purpose financial tools platform and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information as soon as possible. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us at privacy@afrotools.com.

We will notify registered users via email of any material changes to this policy. Continued use of AfroTools after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically for the latest information on our privacy practices.
