Calculation methodology

The shared engine adds or extracts the standard 14% VAT and rounds monetary outputs to two decimals. Zero-rated, exempt and special or Table Tax treatment stays confirmation-only and distinct; the tool never infers treatment from a product name. A custom percentage is a non-statutory planning scenario. The registration screen compares prior 12-month turnover with the general EGP 500,000 boundary using an inclusive greater-than-or-equal test and directs special or no-threshold cases to ETA review.

Known limitations

  • Planning estimate only; it is not an ETA assessment, invoice approval, tax return, filing service or professional advice.
  • Table Tax, zero-rating and exemptions require the exact current law, schedule or table entry; the calculator does not classify products or services.
  • Importers for trade, exporters, distribution agents, exempt-only suppliers, Table-Tax-only suppliers and other special cases can have registration rules outside the general turnover screen.
  • Input-tax recovery, invoice requirements, filing periods, withholding or direct-remittance duties, penalties and sector-specific rules are not modeled.
  • Proposed July 2026 amendments are a review frontier and are not treated as operative until enacted, published and effective.

Test-case examples

Input: Net amount EGP 1,000 at the standard rate.
Expected: VAT EGP 140.00; VAT-inclusive total EGP 1,140.00.
Why: Confirms the standard 14% VAT-exclusive calculation.

Input: VAT-inclusive amount EGP 1,140 at the standard rate.
Expected: Net amount EGP 1,000.00; VAT EGP 140.00.
Why: Confirms reverse VAT at 14%.

Input: Confirmed zero-rated amount EGP 1,000.
Expected: VAT EGP 0.00 and total EGP 1,000.00, labelled zero-rated rather than exempt.
Why: Protects the distinction between confirmed zero-rating and exemption.

Input: Custom planning scenario of 5% on EGP 1,000.
Expected: VAT EGP 50.00 and total EGP 1,050.00, labelled a non-statutory scenario with no product classification claim.
Why: Prevents a custom percentage from becoming a claimed Egyptian reduced rate.

Input: Prior 12-month turnover EGP 499,999.
Expected: Below the general EGP 500,000 threshold, with special-case review warning.
Why: Confirms the lower side of the registration boundary.

Input: Prior 12-month turnover EGP 500,000.
Expected: At or above the general threshold; review VAT registration with ETA.
Why: Confirms the statutory boundary is inclusive.
